The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) will hold the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly at UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, from 5-9 June 2023.
The theme of the session is “A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of global crises”
Key issues to be discussed
Among the key issues to be considered by the UN-Habitat Assembly at its second session are the following:
(a) Activities of UN-Habitat, including coordination matters;
(b) Review of progress in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
(c) Reports on the World Urban Forum;
(d) Dialogue on the special theme for the second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly;
(e) Strategic plan of UN-Habitat.
In addition, the Assembly will elect its new Bureau and also elect members of the Executive Board.
The Global Platform for the Right to the City (GPR2C) is planning to participate in the UN-Habitat Assembly to advocate around NUA and Un-Habitat strategic plan. It is also an opportunnity to reposition the discussion around the Right to the City in UN-Habitat agenda and documents. More informatino will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
