As every year, the Global Platform for the Right to the City together with its members and allies are redoubling their efforts during the month of October to show the strength of our initiatives and joint actions around critical and urgent issues. Urban October begins with World Habitat Day on Monday 7 October 2019 and will end with World Day for the Right to the City on Friday 31 October 2019.
Aware and alarmed that defenders of Habitat Rights around the world are being threatened, attacked and even murdered in alarming and disturbing numbers (see figures here), we think it is time to act. That is why we are planning to launch a campaign to promote and protect human rights defenders and to call on governments to safeguard and stop the attacks and stigmatization of those who fight for human rights.
To show the threats suffered by those who defend our rights to housing, land and the city, we need to join forces and ask you to share with us the cases they know of human rights defenders murdered or threatened by filling out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScJGVSd6vFZm_nrxDRIFDz10CJnAw3jLprgbIbZbMP1H3ZuZQ/viewform
In addition, to join forces and make us better heard, we ask you to share events, campaigns or initiatives that you are planning for this urban October to this address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Stay tuned for updates in our websites and social media channels.
