GPR2C Nesletter /July 2023
Dear friends,
Following the advocacy agenda set together with members and allies, the Global Platform for the Right to the City (GPR2C) is actively participating, in person and with communications campaigns, in different advocacy spaces to demand the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the NUA with the right to the city as a guide, and the recognition and support of civil society organizations and local governments as key actors for our cities, towns, territories and human settlements to be more just, inclusive, safe and sustainable.
This newsletter reports on GPR2C’s participation in the most relevant advocacy spaces in the last quarter. Next stops are the SDG Summit and Urban October. We count on your commitment to continue advancing the Right to the City.
The Global Platform for the Right to the City (GPR2C) Members and Allies are in New York to participate in the High-Level Political Forum 2023 (10 to 19 July 2023), continuing with our international campaign during the second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, to call on UN Member States and UN-Habitat to do not leave the New Urban Agenda (NUA) behind, a roadmap for achieving SDGs, through the Right to the City as a guide; and support civil society and local governments organizations as key actors for the implementation of the NUA and Agenda 2030.

On the 8th of June, at the International Social Housing Festival (ISHF),  GPR2C members and allies organized a joint workshop entitled “Housing policies from below: local co-production strategies for housing justice”, to address how housing policy is shaped by local actors inside and outside public institutions and how these practices respond to the housing emergency with short and long-term actions across the globe, with a particular focus on the alliances that are driving such initiatives, particularly between local governments and civil society.
